Thank you to all who attended the concert with Voices West on Jan. 31 - what an incredible experience for our students.  We would like to give a HUGE thank you to Mr. Krueger and Voices West for this opportunity and for the amazing contribution!  Here is the blurb sent out by Voices West:

THANK YOU FOR A TREMENDOUSLY SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER!

On January 31st, Voices West and the exceptionally talented children from Littleton's East Elementary School honor choir performed a joint concert with the sole purpose of raising funds for East's music education program. The event was billed as a "pay-what-you're-able" evening, and we are absolutely humbled and grateful that the audience was "able" to contribute over $1,200!! To give you an idea of how immense a success we consider that to be, last year's first East Elementary concert fundraiser raised near $500, so this is certainly a trend that we're overjoyed with!

Special thanks to East's Musical Director, Amy Gonzales, for her dedication and preparation of her students, as well as to Littleton United Methodist Church for sponsoring the event with the donated use of their beautiful sanctuary. Hope to see you all next year for an even bigger turnout!

Welcome Back to School

Welcome back to East!  The past couple of weeks during music we have been working on grade level rhythm review, mallet techniques, movement, and singing.

We had a great turn out during Back to School night for our new Band program.  I am so excited that we are able to offer this at East.  Please look under the Band Tab to get more info on this program and thank you to LCMA for helping fund this endeavor!  This year we are offering beginning band on Tuesdays and Thursdays and advanced band on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Honors Choir began on September 6 from 7:45 AM- 8:30 AM.  Choir rehearsals are every Friday!

Fun Facts about Beethoven - 1st - 2nd grade

The students in first and second grade have been learning about the composer Ludwig Van Beethoven.  Some of the fun questions you could ask your child are:

What was Beethoven's favorite food?  (macaroni and cheese)
How many coffee beans did he need for each cup of coffee? (60)
Can you name one if the songs that Beethoven wrote? (Fur Elise, Ode to Joy)
Did Beethoven lose his hearing or sight?  (hearing)

You can find more fun facts about composers in the the book Lives of the Musicians by Kathleen Krull.

The Syncopated Clock - K-3

The students in Kindergarten through third grade just finished listening to a piece by Leroy Anderson called The Syncopated Clock.  They performed the song with scarves and learned about Rondo Form, Steady Beat, and Staccato (short), Legato (long) and Coda (the ending).  You can share this experience with your child by downloading this song from music4you.lorenz.com.
